Balanced Nutrition for Broad Spectrum Microbial Growth

In industrial fermentation, diverse microbial strains have distinct nutritional requirements. This often forces manufacturers to stock multiple grades of yeast extract, increasing inventory complexity and raw material costs.

FM308 is an industrial grade yeast extract engineered to match the nutritional profiles of industrial strains including Corynebacterium glutamicum, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. It delivers a well balanced blend of amino acids, small peptides, vitamins and mineral ions. Compared with standard yeast extracts, FM308 delivers superior growth promoting performance across various test strains, demonstrating strong universal compatibility.

Proven in industrial settings, FM308 serves as a cost effective alternative to dried corn steep liquor (D CSL), soybean meal hydrolysate (SBH) and beet molasses, improving fermentation stability while lowering raw material costs.

1. Broad Spectrum Growth Promoting Performance

Trials were carried out in 5 L seed fermenters using E. coli threonine producing and valine producing strains. For the threonine producer, FM308 delivered comparable growth to FM902 and outperformed FM903 in theearly to mid cultivation phase. For the valine producing strain, FM308 supported faster growth rates and maintained high biomass in stationary phase, favoring accumulation of target metabolites.

Multiple Corynebacterium glutamicum strains (model strain ATCC 13032, glutamate producing strain, glutamine producing strain) were tested using an automated growth curve analyzer. FM308 supported faster growth and higher biomass compared with conventional yeast extracts, showing excellent cross strain compatibility.

Several Bacillus species, including Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus subtilis were evaluated. At a dosage of 3g/L, FM308 stably delivered higher biomass yields.

2. Industrial Application Potential

Agricultural by product nitrogen sources such as dried corn steep liquor, soybean meal hydrolysate and molasses offer low raw material costs. However, their composition fluctuates significantly with origin and processing conditions. Colloids, pigments and other impurities also increase downstream purification burdens and compromise product yield and purity. Conventional yeast extracts are limited by cost and strain compatibility for large scale replacement.

With broad strain adaptability, FM308 addresses common pain points of traditional nitrogen sources: poor substrate compatibility, limited conversion efficiency and unsatisfactory overall economy. It provides a robust composite nitrogen source alternative for large scale fermentation of amino acids, enzyme preparations and probiotics.

Primary seed fermenters for glutamate fermentation often operate with inoculation ratios below 0.1 %, a condition under which corn steep liquor or soybean meal hydrolysate introduces higher contamination risk. 5 L seed tank trials with Corynebacterium glutamicum validated FM308 as a replacement for soybean meal hydrolysate. At equivalent loading, FM308 outperformed competing yeast extracts and can replace soybean meal hydrolysate at a mass ratio of 1:20. It is now widely adopted by domestic monosodium glutamate manufacturers.

Beet molasses is conventionally added as a micronutrient source in L threonine fermentation. In trials, FM308 substituted beet molasses at a mass ratio of 1:20. L threonine titer and sugar acid conversion rate remained comparable to those of the control group, while fermentation broth purity improved.

Beyond amino acid fermentation, real world industrial data demonstrates excellent performance of FM308 in enzyme production fermentation and agricultural probiotic production, with proven commercial scale adoption.
