Angel Unveils Breakthrough Studies on the Therapeutic Potential of Saccharomyces boulardii Probiotic Bld-3 in Ulcerative Colitis

Who is the leader of the probiotic industry? Saccharomyces boulardii should have the name. 1920s, the French microbiologist Henri Boulard traveled in India, found that the local people through the application of tropical fruits made of tea to treat or prevent diarrhea, Boulard after this research, found that the yeast can survive in higher temperatures, this is the Boulard yeast. After this research, Boulard discovered a yeast that could survive at higher temperatures, which is known as Saccharomyces boulardii.

Saccharomyces boulardii is widely recommended for the treatment of various types of acute diarrhea and inflammatory bowel disease[1]. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, non-specific intestinal inflammatory disease closely related to the imbalance of intestinal flora, often referred to as "Green Cancer".

Recently, Angel Yeast published two scientific studies on Saccharomyces boulardii probiotics, confirming their positive therapeutic effects in UC.

1. Saccharomyces boulardii probiotic Bld-3 prevents UC by modulating gut microbes

The team chose female C57BL/6 mice to be orally administered with Bld-3 for three weeks to induce the formation of a UC model, and observed various physiological indicators in the mice. The results of the study found that compared with the control group, Bld-3 treatment reduced colon shortening in mice with colitis, as well as alleviated intestinal mucosal damage and inhibited apoptosis of colonic tissue cells. In further analysis of the results, Bld-3 significantly reduced the emission of pro-inflammatory factors in serum and maintained the stability of intestinal microorganisms by increasing the abundance of Porphyromonas aeruginosa in mice[2].

2. Saccharomyces boulardii probiotic Bld-3 in combination with FOS intervenes in UC

Oligofructose (FOS), which consists of fructose monomers and glucose molecules linked by β-glycosidic bonds, is commonly used as a prebiotic. Studies have shown that FOS can selectively promote the growth of probiotics such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in the intestine and reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines to modulate intestinal immunity[3], and there are still very few reports on the combination of FOS and Saccharomyces boulardii probiotics for the treatment of colitis.

The research team's latest finding: in a mouse model of colitis, the combination of FOS and Bld-3 produced better anti-inflammatory effects, significantly reduced the Disease Activity Index (DAI), inhibited colitis, and significantly increased the levels of butyrate and isobutyric acids. In addition to this, the combination was able to significantly increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium and effectively regulate the intestinal microbial composition compared to the control group and single administration, providing a scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of colitis[4].

Saccharomyces boulardii, as a kind of probiotic, can regulate the intestinal flora of UC patients and enhance the mucosal function, which has good efficacy in the prevention and treatment of intestinal diseases. It is believed that the application of Bld-3 in UC will become more and more widespread with the in-depth research on the mechanism of action and application of Saccharomyces boulardii.

Angel Yeast is committed to scientific research on the interactions between intestinal microecology and human health, and has developed probiotic solutions to provide evidence-based research support. In the future, Angie's Yeast will continue to promote the close connection between science and intestinal health, provide consumers with scientifically proven and tested intestinal health solutions, help people get out of the "dilemma" of intestinal problems, and safeguard consumers' intestinal health.
