In end culture media, biomedicine and scientific research projects, there are literally high requirements for yeast extract, such as good solubility, high content of amino acid and protein, rich trace elements, strong ability to promote microbial growth, and no animal source.
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a membrane filtration technique, which separates components in solution based on molecular weight. Inorganic salts, sugars, trace elements, low molecular weight proteins, polypeptides and amino acids with small molecular weight can pass through the membrane, while macromolecular proteins, lipids and other insoluble substances are blocked so as to improve the quality.
Based on the actual needs of customers, Angel Yeast has developed UF yeast extract FM888 and UF yeast peptone FP108 through continuous exploration and improvement.

The UF yeast extract FM888 is rich in small peptides, amino acids and growth factors, and has a strong ability to promote microbial growth. It can rapidly promote microbial growth and reproduction (microbial sensitivity) at a very low inoculation amount. Compared with FM888, yeast peptone FP108 has higher polypeptide and lower amino acid, providing a more durable nitrogen source for microbial growth. The molecular weight distribution of both peptides is shown in the figure below.
The growth of microorganisms is investigated in the use of FM888 to cultivate Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis under the condition of low inoculation amount (10-100 CFU).
It can be seen from the figure that when using FM888 to cultivate Staphylococcus aureus, the lag phrase is 2 hours shorter than that of the competing products, and higher biomass can be obtained in the later stage. The OD600 in 24 hours is 25% and 30% higher than the two competing products respectively.
In the cultivation of Bacillus subtilis, the advantage of FM888 is more obvious. Compared with the competitors, the lag phrase of FM888 is nearly 10 hours shorter. FM888 can make Bacillus subtilis quickly enter the logarithmic phase and obtain higher biomass. The OD600 is twice and 10 times as much as the two competitors in 24 hours.
Yeast peptone FP108 has a good performance in replacing animal-sourced peptone. Through special production process, it enriched the content of polypeptide molecules in the product, and also has the advantages of rich trace elements and vitamins and no animal source.
It can be seen from the above figure that in the cultivation of Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecium, FP108 microorganisms grow more rapidly and FP108 is more enduring in providing nutrition for microorganisms than bovine bone peptone and tryptone so as to ensure the growth of microorganisms and obtain higher biomass.
From the above experiments, it can be seen that the yeast extract FM888 can provide a variety of nutrients for microbial growth and ensure the quick start of microbial reproduction under the condition of low inoculation amount. The microbial growth is fast and high biomass can be obtained in a short time. While yeast peptone FP108 is a good substitute for animal peptone. The introduction of animal-free peptone can provide higher quality for scientific research and production. Compared with animal peptone, it can provide more lasting nitrogen supply for microbial growth while providing growth factors for microorganisms.
