Nutritional status is an important factor affecting brain development. Human learning, memory, thinking ability, and response speed are closely related to food nutrition. Brain development and brain function are related to a variety of nutritional factors: such as protein, trace elements, B vitamins, etc., various essential nutrients can be appropriately supplemented according to the physiological characteristics of different periods.

1. Yeast Protein

Protein occupies half of the material composition of the brain, it is the prerequisite substance of neurotransmitters. The excitement and suppression of the brain, as well as memory, thinking, language expression, etc., need proteins to complete. Lack of protein can lead to a reduction in the number of nerve cells and the transmission of information between synapses. Therefore, inadequate protein intake during infancy and adolescence can affect mental development.

Comparison of protein content in several common foods as below table:

The protein in yeast contains complete amino acids, including all 9 essential amino acids, which is a high-quality and complete protein source. Yeast protein also contains high tryptophan. Tryptophan is involved in the synthesis of serotonin in the brain, and serotonin is the main substance that controls mood. Regular intake of tryptophan can improve depression.

Based on the leading R&D technology in yeast industry, Angel developed AnPro yeast protein as a reliable, sustainable and eco-friendly microbial protein source, with excellent amino acids profile. Different from animal protein and plant protein sources, AnPro® yeast protein is the best alternative source of complete protein for healthy lifestyles, with characters of non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free and soy free, which makes it suitable for special diets of vegan, vegetarian and flexitarian.

2. Zinc-enriched Yeast

The level of minerals in the diet is significantly related to brain development, especially zinc has an important effect on the brain. Zinc is an essential trace element for the human body. It is involved in many enzymes that make up in human body. It is abundant in the limbic system of the hippocampus and hypothalamus. When zinc is deficient, the hippocampus is exhausted and the neuronal system function is impaired, which in turn affects brain function, causing children to suffer from ADHD, inattentiveness in class, and decreased academic performance.

The study found that children's intake of zinc throughout the day accounted for only about 50% of the recommended intake. The diet is mainly cereals, and the bioavailability of zinc is only 20%-40% in China. In addition, children eat more refined foods, and too much zinc is lost, which can easily lead to zinc deficiency.

Zinc is also important for the brain nutrition of the elderly. Studies have found that the reduction of zinc content in the brain tissue of the elderly, on the one hand, affects the activity of neurotransmitters, on the other hand, due to the decrease in the activity of copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, which affects the free radical scavenging function and increases the formation of lipofuscin, leading to accelerated brain aging, and then leads to clinical Alzheimer's disease.

Angel zinc-enriched yeast is a biological zinc source, the fermentation process increases the bioavailability of zinc. Yeast is also rich in digestive enzymes, which can activate the human digestive system, reduce the content of phytic acid which has negative effect on zinc absorption in food, and improve the absorption efficiency of zinc. Therefore, Angel Zinc-enriched yeast has become the first choice of zinc supplement ingredient for many families.

3. B Vitamins Yeast

B Vitamins also play a vital role in brain development. Vitamin B1 and B2 are both involved in the energy and material metabolism of the brain in the form of coenzymes and are essential nutrients for maintaining the normal structure and function of the brain.

Vitamin B1 can increase the content of acetyl-CoA, promote the synthesis of acetylcholine, and contribute to the production of essential neurotransmitters and the formation of long-term memory. Vitamin B2 can play a role in the brain by participating in the metabolism of essential fatty acids in the brain. Vitamin B6 deficiency can affect the transmission function of hippocampal brain axons, which in turn shows a decline in learning and memory. Therefore, proper supplementation of B vitamins can enhance learning and memory.

B Vitamins must be present at the same time to make better work. At present, only liver, yeast powder, wheat germ and rice bran contain complete vitamin B. Among them, B Vitamins in yeast exist in the form of phosphate esters and it can be absorbed more easily.

Angel Nutritional yeast flakes, also known as Nooch, is a super food with the character of high content of all B Vitamins. Thanks to its unique flavor and similarity to cheese when added to foods, it is a favorite among vegans and vegetarians with a naturally nutty cheesy flavor.
