In the context of antibiotic free livestock production, studies on feed additives as antibiotic substitutes have gained more interest. The main concern for the evaluation of antibiotic alternative is to assess their efficacy on animal health and immune response, as well as animal productivity. Among the alternatives, yeast hydrolysate is a promising product, which are usually obtained by liquid fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and then concentrated or dried after autolysis or hydrolysis catalyzed by exogenous enzymes. Yeast hydrolysate has been demonstrated effectively to improve gut health and increase immunity in broilers.
Yeast hydrolysate generally contains abundant nucleotides, B-vitamins, amino acids, and yeast cell wall polysaccharides (such as β-glucan and mannan). As an important component of yeast hydrolysate, nucleotides have a lot of benefits in improving growth performance, regulating immune function, and repairing the gastrointestinal tract of animals, and β-glucan and mannan oligosaccharide were generally used as prebiotics to regulate the immune response.
1. Functions of yeast hydrolysate for broiler
1） Promote intestinal morphology and development
The beneficial effects of yeast hydrolysate on intestinal development might in connection with its abundant nucleotides. It has been shown that nucleotides could promote intestinal development though facilitating the proliferation and maturation of intestinal cells, then promoting intestinal morphology and development of broilers.

2） Regulate the dynamic balance of intestinal flora
Mannan might competitively inhibit bacterial adhesion to intestinal cells and thereby inhibits colonization, which were considered to have beneficial effects on intestinal health via regulation of gut microbiome community structure.

3） Enhance immunity function
β-glucan possesses immunomodulatory properties that enhance the host response to diverse bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens. It was common knowledge that β-glucan activated macrophages through LECTIN and induced cellular and humoral immune responses in the body, thus enhancing non-specific immunity and immune function.

2、Applications for Poultry
Improve growth performance of poultry
As shown in Fig 1, The final weight of 45-day-old Cobb Poultry was increased by 3.82% when supplement with 2% Yeast hydrolysate (GroPro, provided by Angel Yeast Co. LTD) in the diet. Meanwhile, the survival rate increased by 1.04 %.

Increase of economic benefit
A total of 360000 one-day-old broilers were randomly allocated into 2 groups. The experimental group was supplemented with 2% yeast hydrolysate (GroPro, provided by Angel Yeast Co. LTD) for about 9 days. Compared with the control group, the diet supplemented with 2% GroPro increased the total profit by 117254.8 ¥. The input and output ratio was about 1:4.5.
